State-Protecting Golden Light Repentance. In winter, in the tenth month, during the Emperor's travel to Tai Prefecture, he arrived at the monastery on Mount Jin'ao. It was tranquil and serene; only pure incense filled the spacious hall. There was an extremely old white-haired monk praying to the devas before the Buddha, his words earnest and sincere with concern for the times and preservation of the nation. Pleased, the Emperor asked him about it. He replied: 'It is the State-Protecting Golden Light Samādhi Repentance.' Thereafter, when the Emperor was encamped at Hangzhou, the great monasteries of the capital were granted annual gifts of gold and silk to perform the periodic Golden Light Repentance, which in fact originated from this (Zhao Yanhui, Yonglu xianhua).
