On the eighth day of the fourth month, an imperial edict summoned Chan Master Zhongren of Lingfeng Monastery on Mount Yandang in Wenzhou for an audience at Xuande Hall. His answers to the memorial pleased the imperial will. Ren had received ordination and had his hair shaved at the Qingji Hall during the Xuanhe era of Emperor Huizong. He traveled to and from the translation bureau, thoroughly examining the scriptures and treatises. Later, he attained the Dharma under Chan Master Foguo Yuanwu Keqin (Pudeng lu).
