諱炅。太祖母弟。封晉王。開寶九年太祖崩。帝即位。年三十八。偃武修文。改講武殿為崇政殿。選用賢良謹擇刺史。謂刺史最為親民。苟非其人民受其禍。求言納諫。風俗醇厚。在位二十一年。壽五十九歲。崩以十月十七日。為乾明節　太平興國（八）雍熙（四）端拱（二）渟化（五）至道（三）。

Personal name Jiong; younger uterine brother of Taizu. Enfeoffed as the Prince of Jin. In the ninth year of Kaibao, Taizu died and the Emperor ascended the throne at age thirty-eight. He curtailed military affairs and cultivated civil governance, changing the Jiangwu Hall to the Chongzheng Hall. He selected the worthy and good, and carefully chose prefects, saying that prefects are closest to the people, and if they are not the right men, the people suffer calamity. He sought candid advice and accepted admonition, and customs became pure and honest. He reigned for twenty-one years and died at age fifty-nine. He died on the seventeenth day of the tenth month. Designated as the Qianming Festival. Taiping Xingguo (8), Yongxi (4), Duanhong (2), Chunhua (5), Zhidao (3).
