Feilai Peak: In this year, Dharma Master Huili of the country of Western India came to travel in China. Reaching Hangzhou in Western Zhejiang, he saw the cliffs of the mountain were beautiful and elegant, and said, "This is a small peak of the Vulture Peak (Gṛdhrakūṭa) of Central India in my country. I do not know in what year it flew here. When the Buddha was in the world, it was mostly where transcendent spirits dwelt in hiding; could it be like that again now here?" There was a cave that formerly had a white ape, so he called out to it; the white ape came out in response to his voice. Only then did people believe it had "flown here," and from this it gained its name. The master immediately built two monasteries on the spot: first Lingjiu ("Vulture Peak"), and later Lingyin ("Spiritual Concealment"). The cliff where the master sat in meditation is called Master Li's Cliff; his funerary stūpa exists there today (monastery records and stone inscriptions).
