The Emperor built Lingxian Monastery and ordered the Mentor to the Heir Apparent, Li Baiyao, to compose the stele inscription. By edict, he built the four great nunneries of Jixian—Qianchang, Shengye, Cibei, and Zhengguo—and had scriptures copied and images fashioned. He donated his old residence in Jinyang to become Xingsheng Monastery, and built Yixing Monastery in Bingzhou. He had three sandalwood statues made for the Great Ancestor Emperor Yuan and Empress Dowager Yuanzhen. At Cibei Monastery, he instituted Ten Great Bhadantas to govern and supervise the monks and nuns (Bianzheng lun).
