Vinaya Master Lingche: His style name was Yuancheng. He resided at Yunmen Monastery in Yuezhou. For a time, ministers and dignitaries of talent and prestige, such as Liu Changqing, Yan Wei, and Huangfu Zeng, all presented their visiting cards and formed friendships with him. Che's poetry was equally famous with that of Jiaoran and Sengbiao. Che composed the Lüzong xingyuan (Sources of Vinaya School Practice) in twenty-one fascicles. In his youth he traveled to the capital, his reputation resplendent, and he ended his days in Yue. Prime Minister Quan Deyu composed a preface to see him off, in which were the words: 'Observing his countenance and examining his words, one knows that his mind does not wait for quiet surroundings to be quiet.' He entered extinction in the eleventh year of Yuanhe of Xianzong. He had a literary collection of twenty fascicles, prefaced by Minister Liu Yuxi. Later generations praised him, saying: 'Che of Yue was penetrating as ice and snow' (Benguan).
