Daowu: Chan Master Daowu Mountain of Tanzhou was named Zongzhi, a son of the Zhang family of Haihun in Longxing. In his youth he followed Venerable Pan and received instruction. After receiving the precepts, he studied with and questioned Yaoshan, secretly tallying with the mind-seal. Reaching Helin in Zhenjiang, he pointed Jiashan to see Chan Master Dechuancheng at Huating. In the ninth year of Taihe, on the seventh day of the ninth month, he entered quiescence. After cremation, several pieces of numinous bones and relics were obtained; a stupa was erected on Mount Daowu. His age was sixty-one. An edict posthumously conferred the title Great Master Xiuyi, and his stupa was called Shixiang. Later, thunder moved his stupa to the south side of Mount Shishuang. The Master was an heir of Yaoshan Yan; Yan was an heir of Shitou Qian (Transmission of the Lamp).
