Venerable Vine. The monk Wuyi of Benji Chan Cloister in Ru'an, Wenzhou, because of Emperor Wuzong's Huichang purge, concealed himself in the northeast valley. He built a hut and sat in meditation. After ten years had passed, wisteria vines were wrapped around him, yet he remained solemnly unmoved. People called him "Venerable Vine." Later generations established a line of successors and to this day offer sacrifices to him (from the Yongning bian).
