名忽必烈。憲宗同母弟也。以庚申歲嗣位。己卯歲滅宋。襲統一十六年。壽八十而崩　帝仁明英武屢立大功。好征遠夷。連年用兵。悉皆臣服。遂混一區宇。文臣如許衡姚樞等。謀謨廟堂。武將如伯顏董文炳等。攻城略地大闡嘉猷。制禮作樂民物阜康。古未有也（元史）。

Named Kublai. He was the younger brother of Xianzong by the same mother. He succeeded to the throne in the gengshen year, destroyed the Song in the yimao year, and unified the realm for sixteen years. He passed away at the age of eighty. The Emperor was humane, brilliant, brave, and martial, repeatedly establishing great merit. He was fond of campaigning against distant barbarians, waging war for successive years, and all submitted to him. He thereby unified the realm. Civil officials such as Xu Heng and Yao Shu strategized in the imperial court; military commanders such as Bayan and Dong Wenbing attacked cities and seized lands, broadly setting forth excellent plans. They established rites and music, and the people and material goods flourished and prospered; this was unprecedented in antiquity (History of the Yuan).
