癸酉至元十年　宋咸淳九年　元圍襄陽日久。二月破樊城。都統范天順嘆曰。生為宋臣。死當為宋鬼。即所守處縊死　許衡還至懷孟。簡絕人事。常居山下。勤以自治。公愛兼盡不嚴而整。閨門之內若朝廷。然夫婦相待如賓。喪祭一遵古制。懷孟化之（史）。

Guiyou, the tenth year of Zhiyuan; the ninth year of Xianchun of the Song: The Yuan siege of Xiangyang had lasted a long time. In the second month, they breached Fancheng. The General Commander Fan Tianshun sighed, saying, "In life, I was a minister of the Song; in death, I shall be a ghost of the Song." He then hanged himself at the place he was guarding. Xu Heng returned to Huaimeng. Cutting off worldly affairs, he lived constantly beneath the mountains, diligently disciplining himself, showing impartiality and affection completely, being orderly without severity. Within his domestic quarters it was like the imperial court, yet husband and wife treated each other like guests. In funerals and sacrifices, he followed ancient regulations entirely, and the people of Huaimeng were transformed by him (History).
