1.82

帝詔東昌大師演教聽之。大悅賜以寶玉柱杖　帝頒玉音詔昊天講主云。因朕在世戒約學徒。究明佛法母令減滅　帝命逸林上師。譯藥師壇法儀軌。為天下消八苦之災。增無量之壽　帝設十萬僧會。令十師對御說法。賜白金十錠玉柱杖十根　帝詔十高僧內殿供養。帝端居不動。諸大德亦復默然。帝乃云。此是真實功德。

The Emperor decreed that Great Master Dongchang expound the teachings; listening to him, he was greatly pleased and bestowed upon him a staff tipped with precious jade. The Emperor issued an imperial rescript to Lecturer Haotian, saying: "Because of our presence in the world, discipline your students and thoroughly illuminate the Buddha-Dharma, never letting it diminish or perish." The Emperor commanded Ācārya Yilin to translate the ritual manuals for the Bhaiṣajyaguru maṇḍala rites, in order to extinguish the disasters of the eight sufferings and increase immeasurable lifespan for the realm. The Emperor established an assembly of one hundred thousand monks, commanded ten masters to preach the Dharma in the imperial presence, and bestowed ten ingots of white gold and ten jade-tipped staffs. The Emperor summoned ten eminent monks to be offered meals in the inner palace. The Emperor sat upright and unmoved, and the virtuous masters likewise remained in silence. The Emperor then said: "This is true and actual merit."
