Leng Qian: Courtesy name Qijing. A man of Hangzhou. He was thoroughly versed in music, skilled at playing the se zither, and adept at painting. Toward the end of the Yuan dynasty, wearing a Daoist cap, he lived in seclusion atop Mount Wu, carefree and possessing an inclination for what lies beyond the mundane world. In the early years of the dynasty, he was summoned to serve as Director of Music in the Court of Imperial Sacrifices. Most of the ritual music for the suburban sacrifices and the ancestral temple was determined by him. He had once encountered an extraordinary person who transmitted immortal arts to him: he could conceal his body inside a bottle, and when called, he would respond; even if the bottle was smashed, each and every fragment would respond.
