In the winter of the yimao year, when Yang Jisheng went to the court review, scholars and commoners lined the road and pointed together, saying: "This is the righteous man of the realm." Jisheng chanted aloud: / "The wind blows the cangue and fetters, filling the city with fragrance; / In dense throngs, people contend to see the vice-director. / How could I wish for all voices to proclaim me a righteous man? / Pitiable is the long plank on which I appear before the sovereign. / The sage emperor's abundant virtue is like heaven and earth; / The bailiff calls out the end, surpassing the Han and Tang. / By obstinate nature since birth, I view death as a return; / This body of mine never complied with Yang." / "Preserve my blood for three years and it will turn to jade; / surely even in the underworld, retribution must arise."
