Renzi, the fifth year of Hongwu. Because the dynastic transmission seal of previous dynasties had not yet been obtained, the Emperor dispatched generals to search for it. In the third month, ordination certificates were issued to Buddhist and Daoist monastics. Relief was ordered for helpless elderly, young, men, and women. An imperial decree commanded the relevant offices to carry out the community drinking ceremony. In the spring, an assembly for the grand transference of merits was established at Mount Jiang Monastery. Eminent and virtuous śramaṇas from the four quarters were ordered to first collate and correct the Great Canon.
