Chan Master Ai'an: Taboo name Zhuang, was a native of Taizhou. He served as abbot at Mount Jing. When near death, he said: "Difficult, difficult, difficult! / A lovely maiden of sixteen climbs the high mountain; / The old monk cannot help her up." Having finished speaking, he passed into quiescence. There is the Ai'an yulu (Recorded Sayings of Ai'an); he was indeed a renowned and great figure of the Chan school.
