彌沙塞律云。汝等比丘雜類出家。皆捨本姓稱釋子沙門。長阿含經云。彌勒出世。諸比丘弟子。皆稱慈子。如我今弟子稱為釋子。

The Mahīśāsaka Vinaya states: 'You bhikṣus, leaving home from diverse backgrounds, must all renounce your original clans and be called Śākya sons and śramaṇas.' The Dīrghāgama states: 'When Maitreya appears in the world, the bhikṣu disciples will all be called sons of Maitreya, just as my disciples today are called sons of Śākya.'
