1.17

樓炭經云。後稍有所著。便持童女與夫。歌舞戲笑稱願為夫婦當使安隱。爾時先造瞻婆城。乃至一切城郭。自然粳米朝刈暮熟。暮刈朝熟。刈後隨生（中阿含云長四寸）未有莖幹。時有眾生併取日糧。如是相教乃至併取五日。粳米漸生糠糩。刈已不生有枯株。

The *Loutan jing* says: "Afterward, they gradually developed attachments; they gave maidens to husbands with singing, dancing, and laughter, making vows to become husband and wife so that they might dwell in peace. At that time, they first built the city of Campā, and so on up to all cities and towns. Naturally occurring non-glutinous rice was harvested in the morning and ripened by evening, and was harvested in the evening and ripened by morning; upon being cut, it grew back immediately (the *Madhyamāgama* says it was four inches long), having as yet no stalks. At that time, there was a being who gathered a day's provisions all at once, and taught others to do so, up to gathering five days' provisions. Non-glutinous rice gradually developed husks and chaff, and having been cut, it no longer grew back, leaving dry stumps."
