祐歷觀學者。業盛則聲流。其在悠悠未足算也。故十大弟子以第一為標。四部之眾以名聞自顯。所謂眾所知識出乎其類者也。嗟夫後進。思自勗焉（比丘尼優婆夷數各長一人）。

I, Sengyou, have observed scholars across time: when their deeds flourish, their renown spreads; those who are ordinary and drift along are not worth counting. Therefore, the ten great disciples are distinguished by being foremost, and the members of the fourfold assembly make themselves manifest through renown. They are what is called 'renowned by the multitude and outstanding among their kind.' Ah, future generations, take thought to exert yourselves! (The counts of bhikṣuṇīs and upāsikās each exceed [the original ten] by one person.)
