At that time, the prince heard the courtesans singing of the park groves, with their lush flowers and fruits and cool, flowing springs. Suddenly, the prince wished to go out on an excursion to view them. He then dispatched a courtesan to go and report to the king, "Having been in the palace for a long time, I wish to go out briefly to the park groves to disport and amuse myself." When the king heard these words, his heart was filled with praise and joy, and he thought to himself, "The prince must not be pleased with remaining in the palace and observing the marital rites; that is why he seeks to go out to the park groves." He thereupon granted permission. He ordered his ministers to tidy and arrange the park grounds, and to have all the roads along the route cleansed. The prince then went to the king's place, touched his head and face to the king's feet in reverence, bid farewell, and departed. Thereupon the king commanded an old minister who was intelligent, wise, and skilled in eloquent speech to accompany the prince.
