雖復處居家　服寶嚴身具
善攝諸情根　厭離於五欲
若能如此者　是為真出家
身雖在曠野　服食於麁澁
意猶貪五欲　是為非出家
一切造善惡　皆從心想生
是故真出家　皆以心為本

Though still dwelling in a household,
Wearing jewels and bodily adornments,
If one guards well the sense faculties
And feels revulsion toward the five desires,
If one is able to be like this,
This is true renunciation.
Though the body is in the wilderness,
Eating and wearing coarse, rough things,
If the mind still craves the five desires,
This is not renunciation.
All actions, wholesome or unwholesome,
Arise entirely from mental concepts;
Therefore, true renunciation
Takes the mind as its foundation.
