云何優樓卿　本可所事神
祠祀歸水火　日月眾梵天
事來為幾何　夙夜精進學
心中不懈廢　寧益致神仙

"Why, noble Uruvilvā,
Did you formerly serve the gods,
Making sacrificial offerings to water and fire,
The sun, the moon, and all the Brahmā gods?
For how long have you served them,
Practicing with diligence day and night,
Unremitting in mind?
Did it ever bring you benefit, bringing you to become an immortal?"
