"If one can practice giving,
One cuts off stinginess and greed;
If one can practice patience,
One forever abandons anger;
If one can perform good deeds,
One distances oneself from ignorance.
One who can fulfill these three practices
Will quickly reach nirvāṇa.
If there is a poor person
With no wealth to give,
Who, seeing another practicing giving,
Generates a mind of rejoicing,
The blessed retribution of this sympathetic joy
Is no different from the giving itself."
