經云。至年十九。思出家時將已至矣。到父王所頭面作禮。王抱令坐。白言。思欲出家。必願聽許。學於聖道。王執其手流淚言曰。宜息此懷國未有嗣。普曜云。欲不老等四願故出家耳。王言古今難免汝何預憂。

The sūtra says: When he reached nineteen years of age, he considered that the time to leave home was about to arrive. He went to his father the king's place, touched his head and face [to the ground] in homage, and the king embraced him and had him sit. He said to the king, “I desire to leave home; I earnestly pray you will permit it, so that I may study the holy path.” The king took his hand and, shedding tears, said, “You ought to put an end to this thought; the kingdom does not yet have an heir.” The Puyao [jing] says: It was because of four vows—wishing not to grow old, and so forth—that he would leave home. The king said, “These have been hard to escape from antiquity to the present; why do you worry about them beforehand?”
