The Puyao [jing] says: The physiognomist said to the king, “If he does not leave home now, after seven days have passed, the status of a Wheel-turning King will naturally come to him.” Hearing this, the king was even more pleased, and immediately deployed the four divisions of the army within one yojana to guard him, keeping strict watch within and without. The Yinguo [jing] says: [The Prince said,] “I am nineteen years of age; now on the seventh day of the second month, the time to leave home has arrived. Moreover, I have left an heir for the kingdom, fulfilling my father the king's wish.” He then emitted light from his body that illuminated the Four Heavenly Kings and up to the Śuddhāvāsa heavens, without letting people see it. The devas then descended, bowed to his feet, and said, “The cultivation of immeasurable kalpas has now ripened.” He replied, saying, “It is as you say. However, the guards inside and outside are alert; if I wish to leave, there is no way.” By their supernormal powers, the devas caused all to fall into a deep stupor and sleep. The Puyao [jing] says: The devas addressed him from afar, “The star Puṣya has just appeared!” He immediately ordered Chandaka to bridle Kaṇṭhaka and bring him. The Four Heavenly Kings, together with yakṣas, nāgas, and others, all donned armor and arrived from the four directions. At that time, the horse neighed and the servant wept; having comforted them all, [the Prince] saw the morning star appear, its light illuminating the ten directions. The Prince then roared the lion's roar, saying, “The leaving home of all the past Buddhas was also like this.” Thereupon the devas held up the horse's four hooves and also bore Chandaka aloft; Śakra held a canopy, and they departed through the north gate. The Prince further said, “If I do not sever the eight sufferings, do not turn the wheel of the Dharma, and do not accomplish bodhi, I will never return here.” The devas praised him, saying, “Excellent!” At dawn they stopped, having already traveled three yojanas, and the devas vanished from sight.
