The Chutai jing says: The Bodhisattva sat beneath the jambu tree, gazing at the tree and contemplating for forty-eight days. He moved heaven and earth, and his radiance eclipsed Māra's palace. Pāpīyas, lying asleep, dreamed of thirty-two portents (the text is extensive and not recorded in full). Waking in terror, he summoned an assembly of his ministers and troops, as well as his thousand sons (five hundred sons had faith in the Bodhisattva, and five hundred sons followed their father's teachings). He also commanded his four daughters to go first to corrupt him, displaying thirty-two seductive postures (the text is extensive and not recorded in full), but they were turned into old crones. The Guanfo sanmei [hai] jing says: Three daughters adorned themselves, glancing with seductive charm; they paid homage to the Bodhisattva, offering their bodies to serve him, and presented precious vessels of heavenly delicacies to him. At that time, his body and mind were tranquil and unmoving. He pointed his white curl at them: the women's nine apertures and two primary visceral organs were revealed to their own disgust, with eighty clans of worms nibbling and feeding upon their innards, so that on seeing it they vomited. On the left of their bodies was a snake's head, on the right a fox's head, and in the middle a dog's head; on their backs they carried an old crone, and in their arms they held a dead child. The maidens wailed in alarm and crawled away on all fours. The Demon King was enraged. He issued a general order to the six heavens and all eight classes [of beings], each mobilizing their fourfold armies and exhausting every guise. He also ordered all the instruments of torture from Yama and Avīci to be brought and directed at the Bodhisattva's seat. Pāpīyas roared and commanded his troops; weapons crisscrossed, filling the sky. Hemmed in and pressed against one another, they were unable to draw near. The Bodhisattva slowly raised the curl between his brows; the sinners in hell were touched by the water emerging from the curl, which poured upon the flames and extinguished them, whereupon they recalled their own past misdeeds. Their minds attained coolness, and they cried, 'Namo Buddhāya!' and were consequently reborn among humans. The Demon King approached to challenge the Buddha (the text is as in the Benqi jing). The Bodhisattva, by the power of his wisdom, reached out his hand and touched the earth; immediately the earth shook, and Māra and his armies tumbled and fell.
