經云。佛告樹神。此波羅奈仙人住處。鹿苑之中人民雖少宿緣有在。得法眼淨即以道眼。念彼二仙並已壽終。又念五人歷侍苦辛可為說法。

The sūtra says: The Buddha said to the tree spirit, 'In this dwelling place of the rṣis in Vārāṇasī, in the Deer Park, although the people are few, past affinities reside there; they can attain the purity of the Dharma-eye.' Then, with the eye of the Way, he thought of those two rṣis, but both had already reached the end of their lives; he then thought of the five men who had served him through hardship, for whom he could preach the Dharma.
