僧祐律師云。仰惟。三世諸佛四部咸備。而憍曇彌祈法亟拒塞者。豈非女人障厚方為道蠱。故切磋掊擊以勵將來者乎。

Vinaya Master Sengyou states: I respectfully consider that the buddhas of the three times all possess the four assemblies; yet why was Gautamī repeatedly rebuffed when seeking the Dharma? Was it not that women's hindrances are heavy and thus become an affliction to the path, so that he tested and struck them with discipline to encourage those in the future?
