The Guanfo sanmei [jing] says: The Dragon King invited the Buddha to dwell permanently beside the pool, fearing that if he gave rise to an evil mind, he would have no way to attain the Way. The divine devas also requested that he act on behalf of all beings. The Buddha then asked for a rākṣasa stone cave and dwelt within it, dividing his body across various countries to preach the Dharma everywhere. The Buddha accepted the dragon's request for one thousand five hundred years; manifesting on the outside while inside the stone, the assemblies of humans and devas made offerings to the Buddha's shadow, and the shadow also preached the Dharma. The cave was eighteen feet high and twenty-four paces deep, of bluish-white stone, in the country of Nagarahāra, beside the pool of the venomous dragon in the ancient ṛṣi campaka flower forest, in the rākṣasa cave north of the Blue Lotus Spring, south of the cliff of Mount Anāsi.
