Later he traveled east into Wu Commandery. On the road he saw an angler and approached him to beg for a fish. The angler gave him a rotten one. Beidu turned it over and over in his hands and threw it back into the water, where it swam away. He also saw a net fisherman and again begged for a fish from him. The fisherman grew angry, cursed him, and would not give any. Beidu then picked up two pebbles and threw them into the water; soon, two water buffaloes fought within his net. After the net was ripped and destroyed, the buffaloes were seen no more, and Beidu had also vanished. Traveling as far as the Song River, he turned a parasol upside down in the water and crossed to the bank riding it. Passing through Kuaiji and Shan County, he ascended Mount Tiantai, and after several months returned to the capital.
