On the first day of the ninth month in the first year of the Yuanhui reign of the Song (473 CE), he died at Tongyun Temple on Mount Min. When close to death, he said to the man of the Way Fajin: 'You may expose my corpse, but hasten to tie the sandals to my feet.' Afterwards they complied with his instructions, taking the corpse out and placing it behind the temple. After two days, it was nowhere to be found. Soon, a person came from Pi County and visited Jin, saying: 'Yesterday I saw Master Shuo in the marketplace wearing a sandal on one foot, speaking idly: "The young lad was clumsy and lost one of my sandals."' Jin was startled and questioned a novice. The novice answered: 'Recently, when carrying the corpse out, I was terrified; one sandal on the right foot could not be tied securely, and so I lost it.' His traces were deceptive and extraordinary, beyond comprehension. In the end, it was never known how he ended his life.
