Shi Xianhu, whose secular surname was Sun, was a native of Liangzhou. He came to stay at Yanxing Temple in Guanghan, where he constantly practiced dhyāna as his vocation and was also skilled in the discipline of the Vinaya, not violating even the slightest rule. He died in the fifth year of the Long'an reign of the Jin; as he was about to pass away, five-colored brilliant light came out of his mouth and illuminated the whole monastery. His dying instructions were to cremate his body. His disciples carried this out; after all his limbs and joints had burned away, only one finger did not burn, so they buried it beneath a stūpa.
