釋法進，或曰道進，或曰法迎，姓唐，涼州張掖人。幼而精苦習誦，有超邁之德，為沮渠蒙遜所重。遜卒，子景環為胡寇所破，問進曰：「今欲轉略高昌，為可剋不？」進曰：「必捷，但憂災餓耳。」迴軍即定。

Shi Fajin—also called Daojin or Faying—had the secular surname of Tang and was a native of Zhangye in Liangzhou. From youth he was diligent and ascetic in study and recitation, possessing transcendent virtue, and was held in high regard by Juqu Mengxun. After Mengxun died, his son Jinghuan was defeated by Hu raiders and asked Fajin, 'I now wish to turn around and raid Gaochang; will I succeed?' Fajin said, 'You will surely be victorious, but one should worry about disaster and famine.' Upon turning his army back, he indeed pacified it.
