初什一名鳩摩羅耆婆。外國製名，多以父母為本。什父鳩摩炎，母字耆婆，故兼取為名。然什死年月，諸記不同，或云弘始七年，或云八年，或云十一年，尋七與十一，字或訛誤。而譯經錄傳中，猶有一年者。恐雷同三家，無以正焉。

Earlier, another name of Kumārajīva was Kumārajīva (Jiumoluoqipo). When creating names in foreign countries, they mostly base them on the father and mother. Kumārajīva's father was Kumārāyaṇa and his mother's name was Jīva, so he took from both to make his name. However, regarding the year and month of Kumārajīva's death, various records differ: some say the seventh year of Hongshi, some say the eighth year, and some say the eleventh year. Examining this, 'seven' and 'eleven' may be scribal errors. Furthermore, among the catalogues and biographies of translation works, there is still mention of the first year. Fearing to blindly echo the three traditions, there is no way to settle it decisively.
