後避難潛于濩澤。太陽竺法濟、并州支曇講《陰持入經》，安後從之受業。頃之，與同學竺法汰俱憩飛龍山，沙門僧先、道護已在彼山，相見欣然，乃共披文屬思，妙出神情。安後於太行恒山創立寺塔，改服從化者中分河北。時武邑太守盧歆，聞安清秀，使沙門敏見苦要之。安辭不獲免，乃受請開講，名實既符，道俗欣慕。

Later, he fled disturbances and hid in Huoze. Zhu Faji of Taiyang and Zhi Tan of Bingzhou were lecturing on the Yinchiru jing, and An subsequently studied under them. Shortly thereafter, he and his fellow student Zhu Fatai both rested at Feilong Mountain. The śramaṇas Sengxian and Daohu were already on that mountain; they were delighted to see one another, and together opened the texts and applied their thoughts, displaying marvelous spiritual insight. Later, An founded temples and stūpas at Mount Taihang and Mount Heng; those who altered their attire and followed his teaching made up half of the region north of the Yellow River. At that time, Lu Xin, the Grand Protector of Wuyi, heard of An's pure excellence and sent the śramaṇa Min to urgently press him to come. An could not refuse, so he accepted the invitation and opened lectures; his reputation and reality matched, and both clergy and laity admired him with joy.
