In a neighboring temple in Shanyin was the nun Jingyan, a person of senior virtue and disciplined conduct, who dreamed at night that she saw Avalokiteśvara enter through the western city gate. The clear radiance and wondrous form outshone the sun and moon, and the banners, pennants, and parasols were all adorned with the seven jewels. Seeing this, she bowed and asked: 'May I ask where the Mahāsattva is going now?' The answer was: 'I am going to Jiaxiang Temple to welcome Master Qian.' Thereupon he passed away. Although his illness had been severe and lingering at the time, his spirit and expression were calm and undisturbed, just as on ordinary days. The attendants all smelled a wondrous fragrance, which ceased only after a long time. Qian had known for certain his own end and had also witnessed auspicious signs. Monastics and laypeople who heard or saw this were all filled with admiration and praise.
