At the beginning of the Xiaojian era, an imperial decree ordered Wang Xuanmo to provide traveling funds to dispatch him to the capital. At first he resided at Xin'an Temple, lecturing on the *Aṣṭasāhasrikā-prajñāpāramitā* and the *Daśabhūmika-sūtra*, and setting forth the principles of sudden and gradual awakening. At the time, contentious individuals bitterly disputed and cross-examined him, but since Bin's words were apt and his reasoning reached the depths, none could ultimately refute him. Yuan Can of Chen Commandery, who enjoyed a high reputation at that time, admired Bin's conduct and understanding; he once had the Secretariat Drafter Chao Shang deliberate [with Bin] intending to test him, but Bin did not yield, and Can then went in person to visit him. Can often urged Bin to pay frequent visits to the Son of Heaven, but Bin said: "A poor monk is a person outside worldly affairs; how could it be fitting for me to pursue the same interests as the Son of Heaven?" Can esteemed him all the more for this, and later invited him to become his mother's preceptor. King Jingsu of Jianping of the Song dynasty also consulted him on precepts and standards of conduct. In the Yuanhui era of the Song dynasty, he died at Zhuangyan Temple at the age of sixty-seven.
