Shi Huiliang, surnamed Jiang, was formerly named Xianliang, and was a disciple of Master Jing of Dong'e. From his youth he had a pure reputation; people of the time called Jing the Senior Master and Liang the Junior Master. Although his age and standing had not yet matched [Jing's], his demeanor and conduct followed in his footsteps. Later he founded a temple in Linzi, where he lectured on the *Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra*, the Large and Small *Prajñāpāramitā*, the *Daśabhūmika-sūtra*, and other texts. Students gathered like clouds, ordering carriages from a thousand *li* away. Later he crossed the Yangtze River and stayed at Heyuan Temple. Yan Yanzhi and Zhang Xu cherished his virtue and lingered in his company, often sighing: "Dao'an and Fatai spat pearls and jade in former times, while Bin and Liang ring out golden sounds after them; the pure talk and wondrous threads, on the verge of ending, have flourished once again!" At the beginning of the Taishi era, a grand assembly was held at Zhuangyan Temple, and a thousand foremost doctrinal masters were selected. An imperial decree ordered Liang and Bin to alternate as the masters of the Dharma, and no leader of the day could compete with them.
