At the beginning of Qi Taizu's founding of the dynasty, as well as on the day when Shizu succeeded to the throne, both established monasteries (cāturdiśa) and sought out scholars of doctrine far and wide. Because Rou had long been known for his seniority and purity, imperial summons reached him year after year. Only after the Prince of Wenxuan and other princes repeatedly invited him did he return to the capital. He stayed at Dinglin Temple and personally served as the foremost master. Those from all four directions admired and submitted to him, and both humans and spirits praised him. Crown Prince Wenhui and the Prince of Wenxuan both submitted to him and entered his chamber. Rou upheld virtue and presided as head, accepting the position without declining.
