9.10

鮮卑段波攻勒，其眾甚盛。勒懼問澄，澄曰：「昨寺鈴鳴云：明旦食時，當擒段波。」勒登城望波軍，不見前後。失色曰：「軍行地傾，波豈可獲？是公安我辭耳。」更遣夔安問澄。澄曰：「已獲波矣。」時城北伏兵出，遇波執之。澄勸勒宥波，遣還本國。勒從之，卒獲其用。

When the Xianbei Duan Bo attacked Shi Le, his forces were exceedingly numerous. Le, in fear, questioned Deng. Deng said: "Yesterday the monastery bell rang, saying: 'Tomorrow at the morning meal, Duan Bo shall be captured.'" Le climbed the city wall to gaze at Bo's army, but could see neither its front nor its rear. Turning pale, he said: "When their army marches, the earth tilts. How could Bo possibly be captured? This is merely a word from your reverence to reassure me." He again sent Kui An to question Deng. Deng said: "Bo has already been captured." Just then, ambushing troops from north of the city emerged, encountered Bo, and seized him. Deng urged Le to pardon Bo and send him back to his native state. Le complied, and in the end gained his service.
