In life his body was dark, but in death it became exceptionally white and pure. Thereupon they cremated him according to the rites for one who had attained the Way. As soon as the firewood was lit, five-colored smoke arose with an extraordinary fragrance. The provincial governor Wang Xuanzai composed a eulogy for him, saying: / 'The Great Awakened One is subtle and formless, / His profound response prizes forgotten tranquility. / In a single thought matching the bodhimaṇḍa, / Transcending in vain myriad kalpas everlasting. / With faithful heart emptying eastern musings, / Encountering the sage cleanses western reflections. / The wondrous realm purifies the three realms, / Conveying the spirit to the spheres of the four dhyānas. / Worldly things are by nature irregular, / But true nature's principle is ever bright. / Cloaking his radiance, he lodged in the floating world; / His lingering virtue now transforms what is far and wide.'
