Shi Huiyou was a native of the Jiangzuo region. He went forth from the household in his youth and stayed at Xin Temple in Jiangling. From childhood he ate vegetarian food and maintained disciplined conduct; by nature he was upright and straightforward. After receiving full ordination, he devoted himself single-mindedly to the monastic disciplinary rules. At that time, the Vinaya master Vimalākṣa of the western lands arrived in Jiangling and greatly propagated the Vinayapiṭaka. You studied under him. After prolonged deep contemplation, he attained a profound understanding of the Daśabhāṇavāra-vinaya, and lectured continuously on it. None of the Vinaya masters in Shaanxi failed to honor him as their authority. Later he passed away in Jiangling.
