Shi Huixun, surnamed Zhao, was a native of Zhaojun. From youth he ate vegetarian food and practiced austerities. He traveled to Chang'an to study under the venerable Kumārajīva. He deeply investigated the sūtras and treatises, and was particularly adept in the Daśabhāṇavāra-vinaya and the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya. He then reorganized their provisions and articles, so that the meaning ran consistently through from beginning to end. During the Yongchu era of the Song, he returned to reside in Guangling, where he broadly established seats for lecturing on the Vinaya. During the Yuanjia era, he went to the capital and stayed at Daochang Temple. The monk Huiguan of this temple was also proficient in the Daśabhāṇavāra-vinaya; regarding Xun’s virtue as a model for beings, he had him revitalize other temples. Thereupon Xun moved to reside at Changle Temple. He died at his dwelling in the second year of Daming at the age of eighty-four.
