Shi Sengfu was a person of unknown origins. Orphaned in youth, he was raised by servants. He left household life at the age of seven, becoming a disciple of Tanliang. He was versed in various sūtras, ate vegetables, and held dhāraṇīs. He recited the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā-prajñāpāramitā and the Lotus. Emperor Ming of the Song deeply valued him, ordering him to be the abbot of Pengcheng Temple, where he led the community with merit. He died toward the end of the Taishi reign period of the Song, at the age of sixty-six.
