The various sūtras produced by Dharmakṣema were transmitted to Jianye only during the Yuanjia era. Dharma Master Huiguan of Daochang Temple resolved to search again for the "Latter Part" of the Nirvāṇa-sūtra. He petitioned Taizu of Song for provisions, and dispatched the śramaṇa Daopu leading ten scribes to journey west in search of the sūtra. Upon reaching Changguang Commandery, the ship was wrecked and [Daopu's] foot was injured; he died on account of illness. Nearing death, Pu lamented: "The Song territory has no karmic affinity with the 'Latter Part' of the Nirvāṇa-sūtra!" Pu was originally a native of Gaochang; he had traveled throughout the Western Regions, visiting various countries, making offerings to the venerable shadow, reverently carrying the Buddha's alms-bowl on his head, and beholding without exception the four stupas, the Bodhi tree, footprints, and images. He was skilled in Sanskrit writing and fully conversant in the languages of various countries; there is a separate extensive biography of his travels in foreign lands. At that time in Gaochang there was also the śramaṇa Fasheng, who likewise had traveled to foreign countries and composed a biography in four fascicles. There were also Zhu Fawei and Shi Sengbiao, who both had traveled to the Buddha's realm, and so forth.
