In the third year of the Ningkang era of the Jin dynasty, Emperor Xiaowu dispatched an envoy to invite him to the capital to lecture. He died in the capital in the fifth year of the Taiyuan era, at the age of seventy-four. The Emperor provided one hundred thousand cash to purchase the ridge at Xinting as his tomb, and erected a three-tiered stūpa. Yi's disciple Tanshuang established a monastery at the site of the tomb, which was therefore named Xinting Hermitage. Later, when Emperor Xiaowu of the Song dynasty went south to punish the rebels, his imperial carriage arrived and halted here, using this monastery as his temporary palace. When he ascended the throne, he again visited the dhyāna hall, expanded it on that account, and changed its name to 'Zhongxing'. Thus, the children's ditty at the end of the Yuanjia era ran: 'A Son of Heaven will come forth from Qiantang.' This referred to the dhyāna hall. For this reason, in the Zhongxing dhyāna quarters there is still a Longfei Hall, which is the present-day Tian'an [Monastery].
