In the first year of the Yongchu era of the Song, General of Chariots and Cavalry Fan Tai founded Zhihuan Temple. Considering [Hui]yi's virtue to be a model for all beings, he earnestly requested him to inaugurate it. Because [Fan] Tai's pure faith was utmost, [Hui]yi laid down the ritual regulations for him. The people of the time compared [Hui]yi to Śāriputra and equated [Fan] Tai to Anāthapiṇḍada, and thus the name 'Zhihuan' (Jetavana) was preserved for it. Later, many famous monks from the Western Regions came to stay at this temple, either translating scriptures or instructing in dhyāna methods.
