When he was twenty-four, Master Yuan had him lecture on the Aṣṭasāhasrikā-prajñāpāramitā-sūtra. His contemporaries did not yet respect his ability. But when he mounted the seat, his words and meaning were clear and distinct, so that listeners had no way to blunt his sharp arguments. Master Yuan said to him, "Just now your formidable opponents spared no effort, yet your city walls were impregnable, and the attackers lost their forces. That you could turn your chariot and act thus was truly not easy." Because of this, the disciples looked up to and submitted to him. After Master Yuan passed away, Sengche traveled south to Jingzhou, staying at the Five-Story Temple inside the city of Jiangling, and later moving to the Pipa Temple. Prince of Pengcheng [Liu] Yikang, Equal in Rank to the Three Excellencies Xiao Sihua, and others all received the precepts from him. They set out feasts, hosted vegetarian meals, and personally served the food. In the twenty-ninth year of the Yuanjia era of the Song, he died at the age of seventy. Liu Yixuan, the Regional Inspector and Prince of Nanqiao, constructed a tomb for him.
