Shi Huijing, whose secular surname was Shao, was a native of Yuhang in Wuxing. Born in poverty, he maintained upright conduct, practiced self-restraint and austerities, possessed refined bearing, and had an admirable deportment. He first traveled to Mount Lu to study, and later returned to the capital to advance his studies. His understanding embraced both inner [Buddhist] and outer [secular] texts, and he was especially skilled in the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra. At first he resided at Zhicheng Temple; Yan Yanzhi and He Shangzhi both admired his character and virtue. Yan Yanzhi would often sigh and say: "The jade of Mount Jing is none other than Huijing!" When his son Yan Jun went out to garrison the eastern commandery, he took Huijing with him, and Huijing then resided at Tianzhushan Temple. In the middle of the Daming era, he moved to the Fahuatai at Shan. Later, he rested at Mount Dongyang, wandering from place to place, always taking the propagation of the Dharma as his duty. Even after passing the age of fifty, his determination and integrity grew ever firmer. He died during the Taishi era of the Song at the age of fifty-eight. His written works were collected into ten fascicles.
