Śramaṇa Mingjun, surnamed Sun, was a man of Qi. He was skilled in cursive script and constantly took the Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra as his daily practice. On the night of the twelfth day of the second month in the first year of the Yonghui era, he died suddenly. His chest remained warm, and after a full twenty-four hours he revived. He recounted, 'At first, two boys dressed in blue clothes escorted me to the presence of the King [of the Underworld]. The King asked what karma I had created in my lifetime. I replied, "I only chanted the Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra." The King said, "Wonderful beyond words! Master, you may chant it further to complete one hundred thousand recitations. Next year, you are certain to be reborn in the Pure Land; your disciple will not see you again." He then ordered the two blue-clad boys to escort me back to the monastery.' From then on, Mingjun redoubled his austere practices, becoming ever more zealous. In the third month of the second year, he passed away. The assembly of the monastery all smelled an extraordinary fragrance.
