釋智光。江州人。尼論師之學士也。少聽攝論大成其器。言論清華聲勢明穆。志度輕健鮮忤言諍。謙牧推下為時所重。開皇十年。勅召尼公。相從入京住大興善寺。仁壽創塔。召送循州。途經許部。行出城南。人眾同送舍利於輿忽放光明。高出丈餘。傾眾榮慶北至番州寄停寺內。其夜銅鍾洪洪自鳴。連霄至旦。驚駭人畜。及至食時其聲乃止。既達循州道場塔寺。當下舍利天降甘露塔邊樹上。色類凝蘇。光白曜日。光還京室以法自娛。頻開攝論有名秦壤。晚厭談說歸靜林泉。尋還廬阜屏絕人事。安禪自節卒于山舍。

Śramaṇa Zhiguang was a native of Jiangzhou. He was a disciple of the treatise master Ni. Having listened to the Mahāyānasaṃgraha in his youth, he became a vessel of great talent. His discourse was elegant and brilliant, his voice clear and solemn. His temperament was light and vigorous, and he rarely engaged in contentious disputation. Modest, self-effacing, and deferential, he was held in high esteem by the times. In the tenth year of Kaihuang, an imperial edict summoned Master Ni, whom [Zhiguang] accompanied to the capital, taking up residence at Daxingshan Temple. When the Renshou pagoda construction began, he was summoned to escort [relics] to Xunzhou. Traveling through the region of Xu, as they proceeded south out of the city, the assembly saw the relics upon the palanquin suddenly emit a bright radiance rising over ten feet high. The entire congregation rejoiced with deep emotion. Heading north to Fanzhou, they lodged temporarily at a temple. That night, a bronze bell tolled loudly on its own, continuing through the night until dawn, alarming both people and animals. Only when mealtime arrived did its sound cease. Once they reached the bodhimaṇḍa and pagoda temple in Xunzhou, as the relics were being interred, heaven showered sweet dew upon the trees beside the pagoda; its color was like congealed ghee, and its white brilliance rivaled the sun. Guang returned to the capital and took pleasure in the Dharma, repeatedly expounding the Mahāyānasaṃgraha and gaining renown throughout the region of Qin. Later in life, weary of discourse, he retired to the tranquility of forest and springs. Soon he returned to Mount Lu, severing worldly affairs, regulating himself through tranquil dhyāna, and passing away at his mountain lodge.
